Daily Devotions

By: Jennifer Aaron [Kelso, WA]

When I had preschool children, I waited until naptime for a few quiet moments to focus on God.

When I was the taxi mom, I put my Bible and study materials in a basket. I grabbed it on the way out the door, and my minivan became my quiet spot as I waited to drop off or pick up. Once my kids were getting themselves up and out the door, I was able to leave my basket by the breakfast table so that I could feed my body and spirit at the same time each morning.

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119:14–16 (NIV)

I begin by reading scripture and using the attributes of God in each day’s passage to open my prayer time, adoring God for who God is. I write out my prayers in a notebook to keep me focused on my prayer and to give me the privilege of looking back to see God’s answers.

One of my daughters recently told me that when she struggles to pray, she remembers me sitting at the table every morning, praying for her, interceding on her behalf. I believe there is nothing more important that I can do for my loved ones.
