God's Voice Through Media

By: Helmut Wagabi [Mombasa, Kenya]

I spend much of my free time on social media.

After encountering quite a few posts that were negative or dirty, I decided to filter the information I receive.

I registered on a few sites that post godly messages, and I receive devotions on a regular basis. I clearly state my relationship with Christ on all my accounts, and I enjoy interacting and sharing my faith with those who follow me. I also started a blog that I hope will bless others with the good news of Christ.

Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12 (NRSV)

At home, my radio and TV are often tuned to Christian broadcasts where I learn what is going on in the world. Whenever I hear of people who are in need or who are being persecuted, I ask God to comfort them and to provide ways for them to find safety and stability.

My decision to stick with Christian media ensures that I am not swayed by the questionable social and political noises around me. Therefore, I can stand up for God and pray for peace in my country and in the world at large.

REFLECT AND ACT: What media messages do you find most distracting? What messages encourage you to grow in your faith? How can you turn down the volume on the distractions to focus more fully on God?

Make It A Mindset

Are you uncomfortable with silence? Do you try to fill quiet moments with conversation? Make time today to get away from the noise. Focus your mind. Quiet your soul. Be still. Seek to know who God is. And let this time of silence be broken only by the voice of God.
