Second Chances

By: Doug Lim [Los Angeles, CA]

I hated myself for using such cruel words.

I told God how much I regretted causing my friend so much pain and embarrassment, and I asked for forgiveness; but I still wasn’t able to get over the guilt. I kept replaying the scene over and over in my mind, which only made things worse.

God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 (NIV)

Before long, I felt so ashamed that I stopped praying and going to church. Thinking I didn’t deserve to be forgiven, I tried to hide from God. Finally, it dawned on me that I could never receive forgiveness if I kept holding on to the guilt.

I started praying again. And God showed me that through Jesus’ death on the cross, I could be forgiven—and that I also had a second chance to make things right.

GOD IS LOVE: When we are at our worst, when we think God could never forgive us, God shows up with grace and mercy. Nothing can separate us from God’s love! God calls us children and lavishes us with love, and we don’t have to do anything to earn it. Because God loves us so much, we are free to love and forgive ourselves.
