A few days later, I began to sense God calling me to give generously of what I have. Realizing that I have more than I could ever need while others are struggling simply to survive, I began to clean out my closet. After I had narrowed down my wardrobe to what I thought I needed, more than half of my closet was empty. Then I had to figure out what to do with the extra clothes.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. . . . For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19–21 (NIV)
The next morning, I found on my driveway an orange bag with a message requesting clothing donations for women and children affected by domestic violence. Later that day during devo time, I read these words: “I want to use my possessions wisely for myself and to help others. Be with me, God, as I make decisions.” I knew that God had answered my prayers.
PRAYER: God, I want to honor and serve you. Help me to see the ways you call me to share my wealth with others. Amen.
