The Feeling Of Stupid

By: Jenna Wiersma [British Columbia, Canada]

Some mornings I wake up feeling completely and utterly stupid!

I have acted unwisely or made stupid mistakes, and the memories haunt me. In these moments (and I have had a few), I feel sick and want to isolate myself. Sometimes I seriously consider starting over in Europe or decide that I was made for a life of solitude.

If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 (NRSV)

Then God reminds me that I was not created only for solitude and urges me not to run away. I begin to realize that I am not the only one who has suffered the feeling of stupid. People have felt this way since the beginning of humankind. Even Adam and Eve disobeyed God; and suddenly having knowledge of what was good and evil, they felt so ashamed that they hid themselves from God. But our God is loving, full of forgiveness and grace. Knowing that we would disobey, God sent Jesus to carry our sin and to show us the way to light and life. We no longer need to feel stupid; instead we can feel forgiven.

BE HONEST WITH GOD: The next time you disobey God, don’t waste time feeling stupid or looking for a place to hide. Confess your sin to God, believing you will be forgiven.

Embrace Life

Don’t get trapped in negativity. Learn to laugh and love and share because the positive things in life far outweigh the negatives. Try new things, meet new people, accomplish your dreams, bring others joy. How will you make the most of God’s gift to you?
