Making The Right Moves

By: Elaine Creasman [Largo, FL]

There is . . . a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance.
Ecclesiastes 3:1a, 4 (NIV)

Lord, let every move
my body makes please you.
I’m thinking of hugs, tender
touches, and holding the hand
of a friend who’s hurting.

Dancing before you
and kneeling to pray,
when I’m immersed
in worship do I please you?
Moves that involve cleaning,
doing work, including home-
work, are good too.
Deliver me from moves
involving violence or
rejection like a slap
or a shove or an intrusion
into other people’s space.
Give me holy body moves
that draw me closer to others
and to you.

JOURNAL: Make a list of emotions and the body movements that express them. Let the list guide your prayers as you seek to cultivate “holy body moves.”

What kind of movement inspires you to do your best? When has movement brought you closer to God? to other people?
