Imagine No Hunger

By: Nathan Mazzuca [Dupont, WA]

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”
Isaiah 6:8 (NRSV)

She sweeps her dirt floor,
every morning, dreaming of a hero to come.
She sweeps her dirt floor,
wondering if her baby boy will have enough to eat.
She sweeps her dirt floor,
hungry, because she gave all she had to him.
She sweeps her dirt floor,
remembering her mother, who did the same for her.
She sweeps her dirt floor.
Could you be the hero she’s dreaming of?

WHAT IF. . . ? What if we had the courage to listen for God’s call, to stand up for our faith, to give to others without a thought about not having enough for ourselves? What if we allowed God to use us to touch the world? Would we realize that one person can make a difference?

Tynea Lewis [New Holland, Pennsylvania]

God, give us courage and imagination to change the world so that no one suffers. Amen.
