Watching interviews in which athletes give the glory to God, many of us can be caught off guard, expecting them to talk instead about nutrition or countless hours in the gym as the key to their success.
Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.
1 Peter 4:10 (CEV)
During the CrossFit games last summer, I joined the international community to cheer on Sydney Sullivan, a 15-year-old who dominated nearly every event. After a tough workout, an interviewer asked how she copes with pre-race anxiety and maintains her calm composure. Her response gave me goose bumps: “I’m always a little nervous before; but I just trust in God, and he helps me.”
I can’t help but smile when I hear athletes using their stage to glorify God. What a different world athletics would be if everyone recognized God as the source of their abilities!
REMEMBER: Use your gifts to glorify God, whether your “field” is a pool, court, track, stage, easel, or classroom.
