Look On The Bright Side

By: Wesley Overhults [Lexington, KY]

Sometimes staying positive is difficult. Something bad happens, and it changes how I see the world. Suddenly, life isn’t so cheery.

I get angry and bitter. I go through stretches of time, months or more, in which I have a hard time seeing the bright side. I say hurtful words I don’t mean but can’t take back. Recently, I lost a good friend because of my negative behavior. The day our friendship ended, I realized I needed to change. Since then, I’ve been trying to let go of the anger and bitterness in my heart and to be more hopeful. Change isn’t always easy. It takes a lot of strength and a lot of help from God, but I’m learning.

I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

Negativity only breeds more negativity. I don’t want to lose another friend because I can’t let go of my anger. Holding on to bitterness is not a healthy way to live. So with God’s help, I’m learning to be a better person, to keep my chin up, and to look at the bright side, even when it’s hard to do.

5-SECOND PRAYER: God, help us turn our negativity to good cheer. Amen.

Just a Thought

“Eventually all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know everything happens for a reason.”
—Albert Schweitzer
